Hot Canadian Shifters! #NewRelease from Guest Author @karly_germain #MM #Paranormal

Big welcome to Karly Germain! Her new release is COLD HARD JUSTICE, the final book in The Umbra Shifters series, (from Evernight Publishing) all about hot, MM Canadian Shifters, in Nova Scotia more specifically, who knew? :)  Check out the new release and the other books in the series. It all started in the Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition Anthology (with the short story, His Great Dane) and finishes off with Cold Hard Justice.

~Thanks for having me! I am just so pleased I actually finished a series! Also, being Canadian, I just had to set the story in a place I was familiar with. As for what's next? No immediate plans for a new story, but that can change any time! Would love to write more shifters at some point. ~Karly

Cold Hard Justice

By Karly Germain

Evernight Publishing Jan 21, 2015
Book #4 Umbra Shifters (conclusion)
Word Count: Approx 15,700
MM Erotic Romance/Paranormal/Shifters/Suspense
MC Erotic Romance

Blurb: Undercover work sucked. As a shadow hunter for the Umbra, Justice Cameron was used to sliding into one dangerous situation after another. Infiltrating the motorcycle club, Pride of Kings, to wrap up two outstanding cases should have been quick and painless, turns out it was anything but. Justice didn’t count on Ethan Stone’s son, Xavier, to complicate his assignment.

Xavier Lennox doesn’t care for the ‘lion pride’ way of life, so the scarred, shy loner keeps to himself, living a quiet life in a small cabin at the edge of the MC compound. He ‘fixes broken things’, and no one is more broken than Justice. When Xavier finds Justice beaten on his doorstep, he never imagined he would feel such a potent connection. The big, gruff alpha fascinates Xavier, and it turns out, the attraction is mutual.

The shadow hunter is there for one reason only. No time for complications. No time for desire...or love. Or so he tells himself, because he’s there to mete out...cold, hard justice.

EXCERPT: (PG-13)  Excerpt: Justice had slept last night with a cold compress on his right eye and it must have helped, as he opened both and stared at him. His eyes were a dark brown, darker than his own, but lying this close he could see flecks of gold in the irises. Beautiful.
“You slept all afternoon, and I found Levon asleep on your chest. It seems you’ve made a fast friend.”
Justice stroked Xavier’s cheek with the back of his fingers. “Not just the cat, I hope.”
He leaned in to the touch. “No. Not just the cat.”
Justice explored the raised scars on his left cheek. “How did this happen? Looks like...”
“A stove burner?”
“Yeah.” Justice frowned. “Who hurt you?”
Something warm and tender bloomed inside Xavier. Justice cared. Hope also bloomed. Justice spoke the truth at breakfast. The mate connection could be accepted or rejected. Oh, God. How he wanted them to both accept it. Such a soul bond should not be ignored. It should be nurtured and cherished.
“My stepbrother, Rex. We were eight. You know kids. I invaded his space, touched his things. Actually, I think he was sorry afterward, in his way. He hasn’t hurt me since. He has...anger issues. Amongst other things.” Xavier laced his fingers through Justice’s. Such big hands. So warm. So gentle. Instinctively, he knew Justice would never harm him physically. His heart was another matter.
“Your brother sounds like an asshole.” Justice growled.
“He is. Here’s the surprising thing. I love him in spite of it. Though we’re not close and have very little in common, we are blood. Tainted blood, it seems.”
Justice’s eyebrows rose. “What do you mean?”
Xavier laughed brokenly. “Not sure I want to say. There is something between you and me and if I tell you, it may kill it. I know this is all too fast, but it’s the shifter way. I want you in my life, Justice. I want us to maybe...at some point...become mates.
****
That Justice did not expect. At least, not yet. Sure, there was something between them, but...mates? Admiration took root deep inside Justice. Kudos to Xavier for just putting it out there. No bullshit with this guy. It was refreshing, but how to answer? Maybe he should take a page from Xavier’s book and be honest. After witnessing the mate connections between the Stones and the McNamees, seeing the love, respect, and the mutual desire which pulsated all around them, he began to long for such a commitment in his life. Suddenly, his undercover position became as complicated as shit.
“I'm not used to factoring in another person in my decisions. Nor am I used to baring my soul. Mates? Jesus, big step. I'm not dismissing it. But I think we should get to know each other better first.” Justice winced inwardly. How friggin’ lame.
“I agree.” Xavier leaned in and kissed him. The electric charge that shot through Justice at the gentle pressure of Xavier’s warm lips stunned him. Justice moaned and deepened the kiss. God, he ached for this guy.
“Lay back. Let me touch you. Let me show you how much I care. I will be gentle, I promise. Let me...love you.” Xavier whispered.
Justice slammed his eyes shut so Xavier could not see the yearning in them. No one, in all his fifty-two rough-and-tumble years of living had ever said those words to him. He let the potent, emotional words seep into the very marrow of his bones.

WICKED HOT KILL by Karly Germain
#3 in the Umbra Shifters

Blurb: Cheetah shifter, Killian “Kill” McNamee is the deadliest of shadow hunters—an Ender. If anyone in the Umbra world stepped out of line, got in his way, or became a problem, Kill lived up to his name. Hardened and soulless, Kill didn’t expect a brief encounter in an alley with a strange man to turn into something more serious. And thanks to a run-in with a pack of Werewolves, Kill finds himself in the kind of trouble he’d never before experienced.

Torin Stone, Dhampir, has lived many lives and experienced multiple heartbreaks through his long life and is not looking for any kind of involvement, especially with a wild, sexy, out of control cheetah shifter who is his complete opposite. After an attack by the Weres, Torin is the only one who can help Kill survive.

The more time they spend together, the stronger the bond between them. Torin will do anything to convince Kill they are mates. How can Torin resist rubbing against some—wicked, hot Kill?

STONE COLD BEAST by Karly Germain
 #2 in The Umbra Shifters

Blurb:

The Umbra Shifters, 2
Ethan Stone, lion shifter, had lived many lives. He’d been a biker, musician, and an Umbran, or shadow hunter. Everything changed two years ago when a nightclub fire killed the members of his rock band and left him the only survivor. Now scarred and living the solitary life of a nomad, Ethan just wants to be left alone in his isolated world.
Daric McNamee, a cheetah shifter and also an Umbran, has been given an assignment. Ethan Stone. Find out what happened the night of the fire and recruit Stone back into the Umbran. Not an easy task considering Ethan is stubborn and wary. Almost immediately, both men feel a mate connection, but the last thing Daric wants is to be a submissive to a scarred, terminally angry lion shifter.
However, the attraction between them can’t be denied—though Ethan tries. When it comes time for them to part, will they admit they are mates? Can Daric convince Ethan he is more than a stone cold beast?

Climbing the Writing Mountain by Jan Springer

I was pondering what to blog about for today's post and couldn't come up with anything except my latest achievement. So I thought I would share.

For many years I have been climbing the writing mountain.

My (crazy) mind has so many stories that sometimes I just can't seem to write a word. Not because I don't know what to write - but because I just have TOO many stories and it gets blocked - like a log jam and I can't figure out which story to work on.

I can see the story in my mind (they are the beautiful mountains in the background) but it is sometimes very hard to unlock that log jam and get to the beauty of the story. Can any of you writer's relate?
 *grin*

Walks in the gorgeous Ontario wilderness (my backyard) seems to help a lot.
Nature sucks away all my stress and then I can write again.

Last year I was able to break through many of these log jams during my walks. I wrote some hot erotic romances and then I indie pubbed them.

This past month (January) 2015 I finally reached the top of the writing mountain when my box set A Touch of Ménage became an Amazon Kindle TOP 100 bestseller! Squeeeeing!

I feel like Rocky right now...being the underdog and finally able to punch the air in victory. Wooot!
If you'd like to grab a copy of A Touch of Ménage Box Set for .99 cents (5 stories which takes place in an unnamed fictional town near the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada, and one story that takes place in Northern Ontario)  please pop over to
and follow the links.
Cover art by Bookin It Designs

Now I am off to take another nature walk and suck in some
ice-cold fresh air and look at the gorgeous scenery of pine trees.
Then it will be back to writing and living inside some more hawt stories.
Hugs!

Melting Pots Are The Best Pots

My husband and I were talking the other night about what to have for dinner. Neither of us wanted to cook so the argument started..What do you feel like? Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Lebanese, Perogies, BBQ, Indian, Chinese... We have excellent restaurants for all of these and that's when we started to wonder what exactly is considered Canadian cuisine? Other than Poutine (fries and cheese curds smothered in really hot gravy so the cheese starts to melt) mmmmmmpoutine.

We live in such a multi cultural area, that we take for granted all the incredible things that Southern Ontario has to offer. A quick trip on the GoTrain and I can be in Toronto and a brief subway ride away from almost every cultural community you can imagine.

That is what I had in mind when the idea for Ecstasy Lake came into my brain. I was hiking though Algonquin Park and started imagining a town of shapeshifters tucked away in the bush. My goal was to have a melting pot of were-creatures all living in a close community for protection and kinship. Polyfamilies are the norm there, which is why some smartass keeps spraying 3x on the welcome sign. LOL

Oh, and that night we went to "Sammies" (Lebanese) for donairs and chichen schwarma. :) I love that place and he's been going there since he was 16. LOL What's your favourite food? Do you cook traditional dishes (what's traditional for you) or head out to a restaurant?

Thriving in a Canadian January...

...rather than just surviving it.

(It's kind of funny that I chose this topic for my first post here at the blog - I chose it a while ago, but am just coming to the end of a two-week bout of the flu! So, I definitely haven't been thriving this January, but that doesn't change my perspective.)

January can be a grim business in the upper third of the planet. Many Canadians take their cue from the wild and go for the obvious choices to get through the winter: hibernate or migrate to warmer climes. I like to stay home, and actually winter has become one of my favorite seasons. (Not the favorite, though. Autumn steals that prize every time!) Here are some of the things I do to thrive in winter months:

1. Embrace the weather.
Yes, honest and true, it's easier to deal with winter's cold temps if you get outside regularly. Go somewhere every day, even if it's just to shovel the drive, and take a deep breath of that Arctic air.

2. Learn something new.
Darker days are the perfect time to explore a new obsession. Last year, I took a course on creating handmade books. We worked out way up to making a little hardcover book, like you'd use for a journal. (Of course, I don't want to write in mine!) It was interesting, and also compelled me to head out on a weeknight for the class. This year, I'm experimenting with beads and making some jewellery. Shiny things created under bright lights are just the thing for chilly winter evenings.

3. Indulge your senses.
Every December, I buy an amaryllis bulb when they have them at the grocery store. It's wonderful to watch that plant grow—they grow so fast!–and the vivid blooms make me think of summertime. Mine are just about ready to burst now. Alternatively, buy a blooming plant and set it in a window. I usually buy a new kalanchoe cactus in the winter, too, because they don't mind if I forget to water them, plus they look like desert heat.

4. Eat well.
Another December ritual for me is finding a new cookbook and experimenting with new recipes. I love to cook and so does Mr. Math–it's fun to find new things to make. This year, I've been using The Fast Diet Cookbook, which has a lot of delicious recipes (and even better, they don't taste like diet food). Lots of vegetables and lean meat, plus now I know what to do with eggplants. (Ha.)

The Warrior's Prize by Claire Delacroix
5. Read!
You knew I'd get to that one—and probably guessed that I'd have a couple of suggestions for you! My current historical romance release is a Scottish medieval romance called The Warrior's Prize, by Claire Delacroix, and is the fourth (and final) book in my True Love Brides series.  I also have a couple of bargain reads available right now: Highland Heroes, a boxed set of my Claire Delacroix Scottish medieval romances available for a limited time, and Border Brotherhood, a multi-author boxed set with Kathryn LeVeque and Suzan Tisdale, also available for a limited time. You can also pre-order a copy of Kinfairlie Knights, a boxed set of Claire Delacroix first-in-a-series medieval romances coming out in February, OR download the first chapter of The Crusader's Bride in EPUB free from my online store.
Firestorm Forever by Deborah Cooke

On the Deborah Cooke side of my writing life, there are dragon shape shifter heroes starring in my Dragonfire paranormal romance series. Serpent's Kiss (which is Thorolf's book) was published last May, so now's the time to catch up because Firestorm Forever, the final Dragonfire novel, will be published in March. Follow the link on the title to learn more or pre-order it from Apple, KOBO or Amazon. You can also download the first chapter of Firestorm Forever for free from my store: here's the EPUB and here's the MOBI. (The downloadable excerpt is longer than the one posted on my site.)

6. Stay Warm
And if you've been reading romance novels, you'll have some  inspiration as to how to best manage that!

How do you deal with a Canadian January? Do you hibernate? Migrate? Try to make the most of it? Or do you just love winter?

Surrounded By Sharks

Canadian Romance, Eh?
Blog Post by: Kali Willows

Surrounded By Sharks

The word from many readers, fellow authors, and even family abroad, is that there seems to be a limited idea of what Canada has to offer, by way of tourism and adventure. I know, I know, we are renowned for maple syrup, poutine, beaver tails, and hockey, lots of snow and frost-bite temperatures.

There are the famous attractions of Niagara Falls, Montreal/Quebec, CN Tower, the Dome, and Maple Leaf Gardens, or maybe even Pioneer Village, for the more traditional tourists.
Living in rural Eastern Ontario, in the cold winter, sub-zero months, it is easy to find ourselves feeling secluded from civilization. Especially me, given I grew up in Toronto and had endless adventures just at my doorstep. I’m partial to cozying up by my wood burning stove now, with a nice hot cup of tea and typing away to my heart’s desire. Not so much, the hiking in snow shoes, skating or vast array of winter sports-to my husband’s dismay. I’m not a big fan of being cold.

What about the curious minds of our Canadian-born children? Shirley, they need more life experience than that? Don’t get me wrong, tobogganing, bond fires and building snowman is an every day favourite along with hot chocolate and marsh mellows. It’s a great foundation with lots of tradition, and knowing their roots, but they crave more. Quite frankly, so do I!

To blow off the winter blues this month, I took my son and daughter on the adventure of a lifetime…(well, in their opinion, lol) We drove to Toronto and plunged into the latest-great attraction in the heart of downtown.

After a four hour drive, we arrived at the hotel, small, quaint and just the right price. We checked in with the intention of dropping the bags off and a quick pit-stop before we hit the big attraction. Unbeknownst to me, jumping on the hotel beds and free, unlimited wi-fi proved to be just as exciting for the little minions then going to Ripley’s Aquarium; although, for the record, I don’t condone jumping on the bed. ;-) It took some convincing to get them out of the room and into a cab! Even the elevator and the cab ride proved highly impressive to my impressionable little ones.

Once we pulled up, their jaws dropped and the excitement began. Eager to keep up with my overzealous children, I traipsed after them, where we found ourselves in awe of the exquisite aquatic creatures and displays, geared for learning and experience.

It wasn’t until I found myself in a tunnel, on a small conveyor belt, surrounded by swimming sharks, sting rays and a vast variety of other unique fish, that the moment struck me as sensational. The serene, yet surreal experience of witnessing the beauty of creatures both feared and admired in motion, left me awestruck and so thankful I had the opportunity to share this with my kids. We loved petting the sting rays, sharks, and the up close neon colours of the jelly fish. The “ray-dive,” consists of a wall sized window, where you watch as a diver feeds the sting-rays while an MC gives the animated tutorial. A favourite, I must say.

We had such a wonderful time; we went through the whole thing for a second round of awe-inspiring enjoyment. By the end, we were tired and starving. Although they had a mini-restaurant there, my minions biggest wish to complete the adventure was to go back to the hotel, order pizza and have a swim and hot tub at the hotel, which I’m happy to say, on a Thursday night, we had all to ourselves!

Canadian living, at it’s best.

Cheers and happy reading!

Kacey Hammell Happenings ... Life, Writing, Target, #FREE Ebook.

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a great start to the new year. 2015 is going to be exciting and a lot of fun. At least in my mind it will be.

Not a lot going on in the Hammell household so far. All of us had a terrible stomach flu which took us all by surprise, and it was a very long week. Kids returned to school with moans and groans. Oldest son in high school is starting exams next week, which he wants to get done and over with, but the studying part takes him away from all the fun stuff. The life of a teen, right? LOL My daughter is in her 2nd semester of RPN course in college, and has clinical 2 days a week. She's enjoying it but I have to say I admire her a lot. Some of the stories she tells, which isn't a lot because of privacy, but I am not sure I'd have the knack for doing everything she does.

As far as writing goes, I'm currently working on Candy's story -- whom you all met in DARE -- and it's set in St. Albert, Alberta. My aunt and uncle lived there for a few years before coming back closer to Ontario and while I've never visited, they loved it immensely. I'm having fun writing the story. Candy is a bit of a handful -- she was in DARE too if you recall -- but I am sure I'll get her whipped into some shape before I write The End. Either that or I'll be bald from tearing my hair out over her. LOL

Bit of an uproar going on in Canada atm. Target is closing all its locations. This irks me. Never shopped there and never will. They had promised to put a store in Belleville, town closest to me. All employees of Zellers at the time were promised to have a spot in the new Target. However, we ended up not getting a store after all, and now they're closing all the Targets they did bring into Canada. I've never thought it was a great idea to begin with, I mean who can really compete with Wal-Mart, and my heart goes out to the near 200,000 CDNs going to be out of work. It's a sad and terrible situation.

Reminder to all:
I have a FREE title currently available. And with 69 Mustang being FREE, you can get book 1 & 2 (Mustang Maddy) both for $0.99!

Until next month, enjoy and embrace everything and everyone around you.

Blogging - Boys - Romance --- LOOK SOMETHING SHINY ! by Tricia Daniels

Hi there! I'm not gonna lie... I've been sitting here scratching my head, feeling the pressure to come up with a blog post that keeps you riveted to your seat and keeps you coming back for more. Truth is, I've never blogged before. Yes, I'm a blog Virgin! So for my first post, I thought I'd jump in and tackle it a little bit like I would an event or Facebook page takeover. Let's start with an introduction. *taps microphone*  I'm Tricia Daniels! Country girl, born and raised in Southern Ontario! If I were addressing my American friends, I would then point out that I am the polite, well behaved Canadian member of a group of authors known as Sinful X. At that point I would wait for the snickers to die down and the objections from my PA. lol

Immediately following my introduction is when I would address all the witty comments about my beaver. Lucky for me, being Canadian gives me lots of entertaining material. More than once I've joked that it's so cold here that I need to continually knock the ice off my bush. lol

At first I had no clue what kind of things you would all be interested in reading about... then I had a thought. Along the way I'll share with you things about my stories and the beautiful places in my little County of Dufferin where my story takes place. Then another thought... What if... I shared with you the joys and perils of trying to write Romance in a house, surrounded by four young men between the ages of 18 and 26. There are some entertaining stories there for sure. Oh !  Oh!  Romantic every day things that happen in a small Southern Ontario town would be some great reading! Now I'm on a roll! Idea's are flying through my brain at lightening speed... how do I pick just one thing?  Gah! Here's the current plan, subject to change just cuz that's how I roll! :)  Every month I'll try to bring you something new and different. We're going to be best friends, I can feel it. Let me leave you this month with a famous Tricia Daniels Mushy Moment.  Tdaniels... OUT!  Muah!

Tricia's Mushy Moment as seen on Facebook January 11th

Mushy moment. It's hard to describe this feeling... so bear with me. There's a moment in a relationship where love exceeds all expectations. When your guy goes above and beyond anything you had ever imagined and you are so blown away and proud that your heart is so full of.... love i suppose, (although that word doesn't seem like a strong enough word to describe it) that it feels like it's going to explode. and you just want to grab on to him and squeeze him tight and never let him go. yeah. I'm not sure how to describe that feeling.... but that's where i am right now. — feeling loved.

Fun Facts About Tricia Daniels- Countdown of the top 20 will be brought to you each month.

Fun fact # 20 - I deal with stress by laughing. It’s really awkward at funerals.

Fun fact # 19 - I blush when I edit the sexy parts of my books.

Let it snow, let it snow.... Really? Post by author Jessica E. Subject

As I sit here writing this post (last Friday), it is snowing. It has been snowing all week. And not little amounts that are nice and pretty, but a few inches at a time. In some places, there is over a foot of snow to walk or drive through. My kids haven't been lucky enough to get any snow days, but the children who live in the areas around Stratford have had at least three snow days this week. It's hard to believe I was wishing for snow at Christmas.

There are some things I do like about winter and the snow though...

  1. Snow is pretty. (When it's just fallen.)
  2. Snow on the ground lights everything up, and makes it less creepy walking the dog in the morning.
  3. Cold = no bugs. I do like going outdoors, but I really don't like bugs.
  4. You can dress for the snow and cold. Yes, layers work. I always say it's easy to put more clothes on, but in the humidity, one can only take so much off before they're naked and still covered in sweat. (And not in a sexy way.)
  5. Winter fun! As a family, we love to go tobogganing, tube sliding, and just playing in the snow. Our dog loves this weather, too, and acts like a big puppy. Makes for interesting walks.
So tell me, do you like the snow? If so, what part do you like the most?

If you prefer the warmth indoors, here are some 99¢ sexy stories to heat up your days and nights.

Only 99¢ for the month of January...

Leah Braemel on toques, toboggans, and knitting!

Hi everyone! And thanks to Kacey for inviting me to join Romance Eh?

I guess I should introduce myself. *drums fingers and tries to think of a way to sound interesting. Nope, I got nothing.*

Let's start with the basics. Like, my name -- Braemel -- for some reason people have problems pronouncing it. A lot of people pronounce it as BRUM-mel or BRAH-mel (I'm not a brahma bull, believe me!) but I say it as Bray-MEL, the emphasis on the last syllable. And it's A before E.  But really it doesn't matter how you say it as long as you can find my website and buy my books. ;)

I'm from just east of Toronto, Ontario, though that may be changing later in the year depending on the Ontario government and what they decide to do with my hubby's job. As a kid we moved around a bit and lived for a while in my birth city of Montreal, Ottawa and then to a few other small central and southern Ontario towns. I married my college sweetheart back in 1978 and we're still going strong. We have two sons who are now both taller than me -- I'm still adjusting to being the shortest in the family. (Though it helps when my 6'2" youngest can reach those shelves I would have to drag out a stepstool for -- at 5'7" I'm not THAT short, but there are still spots I can't easily access.)

We have a three year old shih tzu named Seamus who behaves more like a cat than a dog -- as in he's the most stubborn dog I've ever met and wants to sit on the arm of the chair like the cat.

We also have a cat named Turtle who in addition to be a crazy cat often behaves like a dog should -- as in he comes when he's called. Although come to think of it, I think Turtle owns us rather than the other way around.

I've worn a lot of hats during my career -- nurse, admin assistant, teacher, and now author. I write steamy stories--westerns and romantic suspenses, but all but one are set in the States. Which means unless I'm writing a Canadian location or character, I've had to learn to edit out my Canadianisms. Like how in one of my early manuscripts of Private Property, my first published story, I had my heroine pulling on a toque.

To which my American critique partners all went "Huh? What's a toque?" (Did you know that in Texas, toques are known as toboggans? Yeah, that one had me and my family howling like monkeys in laughter because who pulls a sled on their head?) But I listened to them and my heroine now pulls on a knit cap.

By the way, the photo above is of the very first toque I knitted, and only the second project I'd knitted at the time. I just discovered knitting in the fall -- a friend of mine suggested we take lessons together after seeing all the beautiful knitted work inspired by Outlander. OMG talk about addictive. Not that I've made anything for me yet -- all my projects have been given away as Christmas presents.  Well, other than the toque. Knitting has been a godsend for letting me unplug in the evenings, and for some reason I've found that it's helped my creativity.

If you want a sample of what I write, on New Year's Eve I released First Night, a short story that is a prequel to Private Property -- it would be a good place to start if you love romantic suspenses, as PRIVATE PROPERTY is the first book in my HAUBERK PROTECTION series.

If you like westerns, there's my Grady Legacy series -- start with Slow Ride Home, and if you love steaming hot erotic westerns (these are menages), try Texas Tangle, or my lone historical Tangled Past. (You can also buy both Tangle books as a bundle.)
