The Wicked Bad by Karyn Gerrard

Blurb:  Dark and brooding, Nick Crocetti is a bad boy in looks and demeanor. Veronica Barnes needs a new start, and Nick is a complication she doesn’t need.
Can they break down the barriers of past heartbreak, or is Veronica just a good girl who longs to rub against “the wicked bad”?

Excerpt:  She followed him toward the beach. The shoreline wasn't very big, but private, as you couldn't see the road or much else from their vantage point. Wonder how many other women he brought here, she thought cynically.

He spread the blanket and assisted her in sitting down. Again, the touch of his hand made her face flush as well as parts further south. Nick sat next to her with one leg bent and he rested his arm on the top of his knee. They sat quietly and gazed out over the water. The waves caressed the sand with a serene almost hypnotic sound.

“I saw you talking to that wuss, Jake Spooner, as I left the other day. I can imagine what he said about me,” Nick said in a voice so soft, she hardly recognized it as his.

Veronica cleared her throat uncomfortably.

Nick laughed. “I see. Go on, amuse me, what did he say?”

“Um, he said you were in prison—” she began.

“Jail. Not prison,” he retorted.

“There’s a difference?”

“You’ve got the cop for a brother, you tell me,” Nick snapped. He shook his head, more gently he said, “Sorry. It’s a touchy subject. City jail, for assault and destruction of property. Prison usually means a state or federal beef. Mine was local and a long time ago. I did my time and it’s over. I don’t like talking about it.”
“He called you a thug and said you deal drugs among other things.” She shouldn’t be telling him this, but the words tumbled out of her.

“Really? And still you went out with me? Are you some thrill seeker, one of those good girls eager to rub up against some wicked bad? Is that why you’re here? I’ll be as bad as you want, just say the word.”
His voice grew tight and edgy. Barely restrained anger simmered below the surface, she could hear it.

“I’m just telling you what Jake said, you asked.”

Nick stared at her for several moments. “Yeah. I did. Sorry. I haven’t been out on a date in awhile.”

“You haven’t been with any women...”

“Oh, I didn't say I haven’t been with women, just haven’t been on a date.” The right corner of his mouth twitched in what Veronica supposed was amusement.

Karyn Gerrard Bio:

Karyn lives in a small town in the western corner of Ontario, Canada. She wiles away her spare time writing and reading romance while drinking copious amounts of Earl Grey tea.

Tortured heroes are a must. A multi-published author with a few best-sellers under her belt, Karyn loves to write in different genres and time periods, though historicals are her favorite. As long as she can avoid being hit by a runaway moose in her wilderness paradise she assumes everything is golden.

Karyn’s been happily married for a long time to her own hero. His encouragement keeps her moving forward.

Hometown Pride ... Buy 1 Get 1 #Free ... #99cents

It's always exciting to sit down and start a new book. There are times when the details take longer than the writing but every bit of it is just as important. And thrilling. Writing the "Revved and Ready" series is one of my favorite series. The stories are carefree and spontaneous and take me on a journey of fast-paced and non-stop fun. They are lighthearted without a lot of angst or emotionally heavy obstacles that keep the characters apart.

So when I decided to set them in my hometown of Belleville, Ontario, I felt it was a perfect location that would give them a bit more of a personal touch. I take pride in my city and enjoy the familiarity and comfort when writing the stories. Call it an author's prerogative and liberty to not wanting to be bogged down with too much research. *g*

And right now, readers can enjoy both stories for only 99 cents.

69 MUSTANG (Book 1) is currently FREE in anticipation of MUSTANG MADDY (Book 2) releasing this Wednesday, August 27!

Readers will find 69 MUSTANG for FREE at all major bookstores online.

However, MUSTANG MADDY is up for Pre-Order at Amazon & Smashwords -- but taking a bit longer at some other locations.

Grey grinned and adjusted the ladder he carried. “So sorry to hear the sad fate of the lettuce. However, I wasn’t complimenting the greens in your garden.” He raked his gaze over her where she knelt on the lawn.
Damn, she forgot she’d wanted to work on her tan today, and had only dressed in a lime-green bikini top and black jean shorts. The lusty warmth in his eyes pleased her. She sat straight. “A girl has to take the time to work on her tan you know.”
He leaned the ladder against the fence then laid his forearms along the top. “I agree, but I hope you’ve put some screen on that delectable skin in the last hour.”
Embarrassed, heat swept into her cheeks. Damn it, she hadn’t.
“I didn’t think so.” He turned and strode the fence line and onto her side.
“It’s okay, Grey, I can do it.” She grabbed the bottle of SPF 60 from among the small shovels and rakes in her gardener’s basket. After wiping the bottle off with a cloth, she lifted the lid.
Grey dropped on his knees behind her. “Nonsense. What kind of neighbor would I be if I didn’t help out? And you’re baking in this sun, babe. You should take a break after I apply this, and come out when the sun goes down later.”
Maddy rolled her eyes. He was a computer geek who liked to mess around overhauling old cars and motorcycles. While she appreciated the work he did with the vehicles, and the physique he couldn’t hide under dress shirts and pants he wore to work, she hated being scolded. After all, who was the paramedic here? “I have a lot of weeding to do still. And I plan to watch the Jays game later.”
He poured the white lotion into his palm and chuckled. “You never cease to amaze me. A woman after my own heart. That you love dirt, sports and hot rods makes my heart skip a beat.”
Her own thudded hard. Damn, she didn’t know if she’d ever get used to his honesty. He’d complimented her a lot since they’d met and became friends. Always easy with sweet words and thrilling flirtations. She basked in the glory of seeming beautiful and special under a man’s watchful gaze. Not a lot of men appreciated her the way Grey did. He really listened to her when she talked and the attention he constantly showed her filled her with confidence.
The cold touch of sunscreen across her shoulders startled her and pulled her from her thoughts. She hissed out a breath.
“Your skin is burning,” Grey murmured near her left ear. Tsking, he poured more into his palm then spread it over her.
The chill of the lotion as he smoothed it into her skin did little to cool her down. Not with the scalding heat of his hands gliding over her, along her sides and down to the waistband of her shorts. Her skin tingled warmed. She wanted to stretch like a kitten getting massaged by its favorite owner. She fisted her hands in her lap, dropping her head forward as he applied the cream to the back of her neck.
“You’re a little tense back here.” Grey commented, his voice rough but gentle near her ear.
“Mmm,” she couldn’t gather anything else comprehensive to say. Mindless to his attention, she wanted to sit like this for hours and let him pamper her. Of course, if she remained under his masterful fingers, she’d need a cold shower. Her body tingled, his touch twisting around every nerve inside her, each one sparking hot.
“I think that should do it. You’re protected from the sun for about an hour at least.”
Despite his words, Grey’s touch never disappeared. He glided his fingers along her arms, then over her shoulders and back, down to her hips.
Lord have mercy. Heart thudding, Maddy glanced at him over her right shoulder. “Thanks for taking care of me.”
His gaze locked on hers. Desire, power and heat stared back at her. No one ever looked at her like that. She shuddered. Should she consider her ego a bit out of whack if she thought he stared at her as if she were the only woman in the world? As if he wanted to eat her alive?

Hope you enjoyed!

GO WILD! Taking a break with a family trip by author Jessica E. Subject @jsubject #AfricanLionSafari

Hello readers! Yesterday I went with my family to African Lion Safari in Cambridge, Ontario. It's a drive-through park, where the people are in "cages" (a vehicle), and the animals roam free within the gated reserve. They also have mini train tours and a boat tour to see more animals, bird and elephant shows, elephant rides, and a splash park. It's always a great place to visit.

Here are some of the animals we saw...

LIONS

WHITE LIONS

GIRAFFES

ZEBRAS

RHINOS

ELEPHANTS

...and so many more. It's a place that I will always love to visit.

Tell me, where is your favourite place to visit wildlife?

Wildlife in our backyard

Living by a nature trail, we are often treated to sightings of wildlife. Some are small, and common, like squirrels and chipmunks (Chippy and Ella really don't like to share our yard and the peanuts with anyone else). We've seen fat bunnies, who despite the fence around our yard, always seem to manage to find a way in.

Not this winter but the one before, there were even coyotes spotted on the trail. Of course my son, the one who saw them running, initially thought they were small wolves. Eep. I kept the pets in for a few days out of fear they'd get eaten.

Deer are also common, as well as wild turkeys. Although, our first experience with one of those was quite comical.

My children playing out front, came in screaming (because they only have two volume levels; loud and excited, and silently plotting). "Mom, there's a mini ostrich out front." Me: "I doubt it." Them: "There is. Come see, it's running in between the houses." Sure enough, between the neighbors house scurried a chubby feathered 'ostrich'. LOL. I'll admit, I didn't know what the hell it was other than it wasn't an ostrich. It was my hubby who declared it was a wild turkey. Seeing as how I'd only ever seen them in a roasting pan or a plate before, it was quite the novel experience. And being a bit of a suburbanite, I ushered the children in the house less the wild fowl decide to attack.

Then there was the bear incident. The roaming furry predator wasn't quite in my yard, but he was close to my kids school, close enough they cancelled recess. He was eventually caught and released in a less populated area, but it certainly got my mind working about the wild animals you can sometimes encounter, in your own back yard. And what if the wild creature came inside? What would you do?

My newest heroine in Kodiak's Claim has a method of dealing with a BIG bear and it involves a frying pan. Little does she know the bear is in fact a man, a sexy one, and fight it as he might, he can't resist the allure of a curvy city girl.

A 1Night Stand in the Capital? Post by Jessica E. Subject #1NS #boxset #99cents

It's been an exciting and busy summer for me. I have a box set and audio book releasing soon, had a box set already release, and I celebrated three years published with my first 1Night Stand title, Celestial Seduction.

With my first 1Night Stand story, I decided to set it in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Why? To be different. There were many stories already set in the flagship location of Las Vegas and others in more tropical locations. I wanted to include a setting with colder temperatures, and sexy blue aliens. Okay, so maybe the aliens aren't part of Ottawa, or Canada, but I wanted to include one anyway.

Here's an excerpt from CELESTIAL SEDUCTION:

“You do not belong here. You can do things the people on Earth can’t. You don’t even look like them. This human image that you’re hiding under is just that—an image.” His face became red. “You’re not one of them. Take it off! If they find out….”

“They won’t. This is where I belong, now let me off this ship.” Frey didn’t once regret his decision to stay on Earth. He’d had enough of the ship, his former Commander and the conversation. With more pressing matters, he needed to leave. “I’m late for a meeting.”

The MC’s eyes narrowed. “What kind of meeting?”

For a second, he hesitated. “A date.” That kind of fraternization was expressly forbidden by the Space Service, but they no longer held any control over him.

The MC stumbled backward. He pushed a hand against the wall to regain his balance. “You’ve chosen an Earthling as a mate?” He clearly understood the implication.

“I have.” He’d yet to meet the woman, but the picture he’d seen of her caused his heart to thump faster, his blood to flow to places only used in mating. He examined the ship for possible exits so he could get to her.

The ship lurched as it dropped in elevation. Within minutes it landed and the ramp door opened.

“Get out!” His former Mission Commander all but shoved him out of the ship. “I will inform the Chancellor you are dead.”

Although the old Ginnunian meant his words to hurt, Frey smiled as he stepped off the ramp. Staring across the recently harvested cornfield, he spotted his car parked on the side of the road. He rushed across the frosted dirt and corn stalks toward it, with the light reflected from the moon illuminating his path. He’d finally ensured no one from Ginnun would return for him.

Right now, you can get Celestial Seduction on its own, or as part of my 1Night Stand box set. The box set is only $0.99 at the following locations:

And if you enjoy the 1Night Stand stories, check out another $0.99 box set that has 1NS titles from twenty-one authors, and includes another story of mine, Satin Sheets in Space. It releases Friday, August 8!
